About Us
At Mehman's Table, we believe that understanding bridges the spaces between people.
Mehman — the Persian and Turkic word for "guest" — carries a weight that the English word doesn't quite capture. In Afghan and Central Asian culture, a guest is not an inconvenience. A guest is an honor. You make room, you pour tea, you listen. That spirit is what this place is built on.
Our journey began with a deep love for culture, language, and the movement of people across the globe. With over twenty years of cross-cultural experience and life in more than four countries, we've seen firsthand how stories, shared meals, and conversations can connect lives that might otherwise never meet.
This space exists to celebrate the flow of humanity — the way we learn from one another, adapt, and grow as we encounter new cultures.
Through our blog, Amateur Anthropologists, we share stories of refugees and migrants, especially from Central Asia — voices that reveal resilience, beauty, and the complexity of life between worlds.
Through Common Current, our online English-learning center, we help people gain confidence in communication and open doors to new opportunities.
And through our Travel section, we guide travelers toward meaningful experiences — with special attention to Istanbul, Turkey — helping them connect deeply with place and people rather than simply passing through.
At its core, Mehman's Table is about connection — between language and culture, traveler and host, East and West, and ultimately, person to person.
Because when we listen, learn, and share stories, we find that we're all part of the same current.
